Measles Outbreak
If you are worried about you or a family member being at risk please contact the surgery
Measles is one of the most contagious infections that exists and can cause hospitalisation, brain damage and death. It spreads to others by coughing and sneezing. Up to 90% of people who are close to someone infected and who are not immune will become infected.
Infected people can spread measles to others from 4 days before the rash appears until 4 days afterwards.
The best protection against measles is the MMR vaccine. Your child needs 2 doses of the vaccine for the best protection. The first dose it given around one years of age and the second is as a pre-school booster. If any child or young person missed out on either or both vaccines, please let us know and we will arrange an appointment for a catch up vaccine.
